Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about SnowLinks.
Getting started
What is SnowLinks?
SnowLinks is a community platform that helps skiers and snowboarders in Australia find each other to share car rides and accommodation. We are an introduction service — we are not a transport, travel, or accommodation provider, and we are not a party to any arrangement made between members.
Is SnowLinks free?
Yes — SnowLinks is completely free to use.
How do I sign in?
You can sign in with Facebook (recommended), Google, or your email address. Email sign-in uses a one-time code, so there's no password to remember.
Which resorts are supported?
We currently support Perisher, Thredbo, Charlotte Pass, Falls Creek, and Mt Buller. Select 'Other' if your resort isn't listed.
Matching
How does matching work?
Complete your profile in three steps: personal details and ski level, your trip dates and resort, and what you're offering (a seat in your car, a spare room, or both). SnowLinks then finds other users going to the same resort at the same time and shows you their profiles.
When does matching open?
Full matching launches 1 June 2026. You can set up your profile now — when matching goes live, you'll be ready to browse from day one. The first 500 members get priority matching.
What do I need to complete before I can match?
There are three steps: (1) Your profile — photo, bio and name. (2) Your trip — resort, dates, and how flexible you are. (3) What you're offering — carpool seats, accommodation, or both. All three steps unlock messaging with your matches.
Sharing rides
How does ride sharing work?
If you have a car, add carpool details to your profile: how many seats you have, your departure city, and any cost contribution you'd like. SnowLinks matches you with skiers from the same city heading to the same resort. You coordinate the details directly once matched. Ride contributions are for genuine cost-sharing (fuel and tolls) only — not a commercial fare. SnowLinks does not handle payments; contributions are arranged directly between you and the driver.
Do I have to share a ride?
No — ride sharing is optional. You can use SnowLinks purely for accommodation matching, or just to connect with other snow lovers making the same trip.
Sharing accommodation
How does accommodation sharing work?
If you have a hotel, cabin, or Airbnb booked, you can indicate you have spare rooms or beds. SnowLinks will show you to other skiers looking for accommodation at the same resort on overlapping dates. Hosts are responsible for confirming they are allowed to share their accommodation under any applicable strata by-laws, council rules, and insurance conditions. Contributions are for genuine cost-sharing only — not a commercial rate.
Do I have to share accommodation?
No — accommodation sharing is optional. You can use SnowLinks just for ride sharing if you prefer.
Safety & responsibility
Does SnowLinks verify drivers, hosts, or other members?
No. SnowLinks is an introduction service — we do not perform identity checks, background checks, driving record checks, vehicle inspections, or accommodation inspections. Profile information is provided by members and has not been independently confirmed by us. You should use your own judgement, chat with the other member through the platform before committing, and ask any questions that matter to you.
Is SnowLinks responsible if something goes wrong on a trip?
No. SnowLinks helps members find each other but is not a party to any ride, accommodation, or other arrangement. We are not a transport, travel, tour, or accommodation provider. Any arrangement between members is their own arrangement. Our Terms of Service set this out in full.
What should I do if I feel unsafe with a match?
Trust your instincts. You are never obliged to go through with a meet-up, ride, or stay. If you feel unsafe, leave or do not proceed. If you are in immediate danger, call 000. You can also report a member to us at admin@snowlinks.com.au — we may suspend or remove accounts based on reports.
Can I be matched with someone of a specific gender only?
You can set a gender preference for accommodation roommates during onboarding. This is used to filter your matches and is not shown on your public profile.
Drivers, insurance & money
Is the driver insured? Am I covered as a passenger?
This is between you and the driver. SnowLinks does not provide insurance and does not verify driver insurance. Personal car insurance policies in Australia generally cover passengers only when the trip is genuine cost-sharing, not a commercial fare. If you are a passenger, you may want to ask the driver about their insurance. If you are a driver, you should check with your insurer that your policy covers carrying passengers in this way. Consider travel or personal accident insurance for yourself.
How much can a driver charge?
Only a genuine contribution toward fuel and tolls — not a fare and not a profit. A reasonable rule of thumb is to split the actual fuel cost evenly among everyone in the car. Charging more than cost can void the driver's insurance and may require commercial transport accreditation. Members who appear to be operating commercially may have their account suspended.
Does SnowLinks handle the money?
No. Any contribution is paid directly between you and the other member — usually cash or a bank transfer like PayID. SnowLinks does not process payments and is not involved in any disputes about money.
What if there's a car accident?
Any vehicle accident is a matter between the people involved, their insurers, and the police. SnowLinks is not involved and is not liable for accidents or any loss or injury arising from them. Always wear a seatbelt, drive (or ride) sober, and follow alpine driving rules including snow chain requirements.
Hosts & accommodation rules
Am I allowed to share my accommodation?
That depends on your situation. Many things can affect this, including whether you own the property or have a lease, strata or body corporate by-laws, council short-stay rules, your insurance policy conditions, and your tax position. It is your responsibility to confirm you are allowed to share. SnowLinks does not check this. If in doubt, check with your strata committee, council, insurer, and accountant.
How much can a host charge?
Only a genuine contribution toward the actual cost of the accommodation — not a commercial rate. Hosts who appear to be running a short-stay rental business may have their account suspended.
What if my host cancels at the last minute?
This is a matter between you and the host. SnowLinks is not involved. We recommend confirming details (including a cancellation arrangement) by message through the platform before committing, and not paying any money up front.
Is my address shown on my profile?
No. Property names and suburbs are shown to potential matches, but full street addresses are only revealed once both members have confirmed a match.
Privacy & safety
Is my data safe?
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information and we never sell your data. Your profile is only visible to other logged-in SnowLinks members. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
